The transition from primary education to secondary education, or between middle school and high school, can be tough. While it is always exciting to move onto a new stage of education, adjusting to tougher coursework and a new routine can be a challenge. There are plenty of ways to help get your children ready for their secondary education and make the transition as smooth and successful as possible.
- Get Prepared. Starting at a new school could mean your child’s transportation to school could change; the supplies they need may differ; or their start and end times are different. Informing your child of these changes and preparing ahead of time can help them feel more comfortable and assure them they have everything they need.
- Learn About a New School Together. Oftentimes, secondary education may take place in a brand-new building, which can be intimidating. Many schools offer move-up days that can familiarize students to their new environment, and more information is likely available on the school’s website. You can also investigate extracurricular activities together, so that your child has something fun to look forward to.
